Description

A short yet ambitious project at the intersection of service design, research, and product design.

Purpose

I was hired by Mossaic Innovation to work with one of their biggest clients, BT Global, to create an MVP of an executive dashboard. BT Global is a leading communications services company, serving multinational organisations worldwide with security, cloud, and networking services. The goal was to bridge operations between the fractured Product, Sales, and Delivery teams, developing a reporting and analysis framework to better understand product demand and its relationship to delivery and sales performance.

Project

Executive Dashboard MVP: A dashboard to interlock operations between Product, Sales, and Delivery teams at BT Global. It aimed to provide a single source of data, develop a strategic solution, and iteratively expand the dataset to meet demand.

Collaboration

I worked intensively in an agile cross-functional team that included:

  • Product Owner: Guided the product vision and priorities.
  • Scrum Master: Facilitated agile processes and team collaboration.
  • Data and Reporting Specialists: Provided expertise on data management and reporting.
  • Delivery Manager: Ensured timely and efficient delivery of the project.
  • Business and Data Analysts: Analysed business needs and data requirements.
  • Service Designer: Focused on the service aspects and user experience.
  • Myself: Leading workshops, conducting research, and driving the design process.

Role

In my role, I:

  • Led workshops to understand the problem space.
  • Conducted research interviews with key stakeholders.
  • Analysed findings and created personas.
  • Drafted the information architecture and high-level metrics.
  • Prioritised key user journeys.
  • Translated user stories into wireframes and graphs.
  • Delivered detailed UI designs for the reporting dashboard, including key KPIs, filters, drill-downs, reporting, forecasts, and actionable insights.

Success Metrics

The success of the project was measured by:

  • User Adoption: Received positive feedback from BT Global’s executive team, demonstrating the dashboard’s value and potential, thereby justifying further investment and development.
  • Operational Efficiency: Improved alignment between Product, Sales, and Delivery teams.
  • Predictive Accuracy: Enhanced ability to predict product demand and plan future strategies.

Outcome

The project successfully delivered an MVP of the executive dashboard within the 3-sprint timeframe. Key outcomes included:

  • Unified Data Source: Created a single source of truth for data, improving decision-making.
  • Strategic Insights: Provided actionable insights and forecasts, enhancing business planning.
  • Improved Performance Tracking: Enabled better tracking of product performance, delivery, and sales metrics.

Conclusion

Working on the executive dashboard MVP for BT Global was a fast-paced and challenging project. It allowed me to leverage my skills in service design, research, and product design to deliver a solution that bridged operational gaps and provided strategic insights. This case study showcases the importance of cross-functional collaboration and agile methodologies in driving successful product innovation.
